Hattori Hanzo Educator Ryan Teal Visits Penrose Academy

Penrose Academy’s partnership with Hattori Hanzo allows us to give our Cosmetology students classes from educators that work in all different avenues of the professional beauty industry. In today’s Assembly Cosmetology students attended a hair cutting & shear class with Hattori Hanzo educator and hair artist Ryan Teal of Teal Salon in Portland, Oregon.

Ryan Teal is a vivacious and outspoken hair artist with 20+ years of experience in the professional beauty industry who has a love for all things creative. Ryan is a passionate educator who openly shared his vision and inspiration with our students, including stories of his beauty school experience, winning NAHA Salon Team of the Year, and filling an entire passport in one year by traveling, educating and sharing his passion for hairdressing across the world. Ryan has worked along side his partner Deannalyn Teal as a well accomplished & award winning salon team, session and stage artist and a passionate teacher. Ryan shared with the students his top 7 must carry shears, including the Hattori Hanzo 5.5” shear and a 13T texture shear which Penrose Academy Cosmetology students receive in their student kit. During a live hair cut demonstration Ryan shared a multitude of tips and tricks from sectioning and parting the hair to shear techniques to make hair cutting more efficient. After Assembly Ryan joined our students in our Student Salon to work hands on with them and their guests.

Ryan wrapped up with 3 final thoughts. The first was that he loved each and every one of our students, and while he doesn’t love all hairdressers, he loves the ones that are passionate about their education and he could see that in our entire student body. The second was to support those that support you, including your educators who gave up a career in the professional beauty industry to give back to students, vendors that make the job of a hair stylist easier and the family that lends its support on the journey of the professional beauty student. The final thought was to jump off a cliff, sometimes taking a leap to invest in a career in the professional beauty industry can be scary, but if he hadn’t invested in his tuition for beauty school he would not own a successful salon, have a career as a session stylist and educator or have the amount of success that he does had he not taken the risk and dove into a career in the professional beauty industry.
