As a student at Penrose Academy there are a whole host of extra-curricular opportunities one of which is our Student Council. Penrose Academy’s Student Council is a focused group of peer-elected students that help to plan and implement campus events and projects. Student Council also interacts closely with Penrose Academy Founder & President Jill Kohler to plan our Student Life calendar and scheduling our ever-popular Dress-Up Days, Energizers and Talent Shows.
Our Fall 2015 Student Council was elected in this past Thursday’s all school assembly. Each of the eighteen candidates had to get up on stage in front the entire Penrose student body and in the words of Jill Kohler, “get comfortable being uncomfortable” by expressing to their fellow classmates why they deserved to be elected to Student Council. A few of the highlights during the elections included a student sharing that she wanted to “absorb Penrose Academy and then reflect it right back to the world”, one stating she “felt like she had been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry”, and another student who baked 150 cupcakes for the Penrose students, staff & faculty.
The entire Penrose student body voted and after the ballots were tallied Cosmetology students Joy Z., Marcella A., Tim N., & Kenzie L. along with Esthetics students Lindi F., Alexis J., & Kristy F. were announced as the newest members of Student Council. The fall 2015 Student Council will have the special task of helping to organize Penrose Academy’s annual holiday tradition of adopting a family that has a child in the neonatal intensive care unit at our charity of choice Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Congratulations to all of the students that participated in elections and to those who were elected by their peers!
