At the end of a 1600-hour cosmetology program or 600-hour esthetics program, you find yourself feeling a sense of accomplishment. Jen and Matt Martinelli are a husband and wife duo from New Jersey that one day after a life changing seminar, decide to quit their jobs, move across the country with their two children, and make their own startup company. With more than 16 combined years in the beauty industry, they found that the industry was lacking a productive system for finding and recruiting talent.

  Canvas Recruit is a multi-functional website that brings beauty professionals and students together in a collaborative environment. Beauty Students (or professionals) make digital resumes that showcase all aspects of their career including retail sales, average ticket numbers, and retention of guests. You can also put what school you went too, and what brands you are familiar with. Another perk of Canvas Recruit is being able to sync up your Instagram account to your Canvas Recruit account, so you won’t need to constantly update your “canvas”. After you create your canvas, you can apply to different jobs postings, assisting opportunities, and more! Canvas Recruit has created a creative space to show case your talents, take advantage of educational opportunities and help find a salon or spa that best fits you.

As a salon and spa owner, Canvas Recruit gives ample opportunities to recruit new talent. With their customized filters, you can choose the type of person you want to hire based on location, software experience, retail sales, and average ticket. This is a great way to make sure that the next person you hire fits the culture of your salon/spa and helps prevent turnover. If you are not hiring right away, they have an option called “bookmarking” where you can save a “canvas” you like and write notes on the potential talent and come back when you’re ready to hire.
